As with any project, our starting point was to research our subject. The more thorough the research, the more familiar you are with your subject. The better you plan, the smoother the project runs and the less mistakes you make along the way. This is a vital area often overlooked in the enthusiasm to make something.
Luckily, as this had originally been conceived as a costume project which due to lack of time, had ground to a halt soon after starting, a lot of research, collecting, scavanging and, where necessary, buying of materials had already been done. However, the change from a costume project to a freestanding figure obviously required a completely different approach and a whole plethora of new challenges.
So, where to start researching? Where else but by watching all four Alien films and the two Alien vs Predator films so many times, we had come to know our subject like you know a friend, how they think, how they move, what makes them who they are. We also trawled the Internet to add to an already large pile of reference images, revisited HR Giger's original sketches and paintings of his design and bought a small Alien toy figure.
